ARCHITECTURE MACHINE #10: Urban elements by New York artist Peter Burr to be shown at the Jenoptik high-rise building in Jena
From November 1st to 17, 2024, daily from 6 p.m. every half hour, the vivid animations can be seen as part of “tangente digital art” exhibition by Jenoptik.
The projection “ARCHITECTURE MACHINE #10” by Peter Burr shows a labyrinth of contrasting patterns of various urban interiors. In their dynamics, they seem to expand beyond the boundaries of the Ernst Abbe high-rise in Jena.
Like our modern world, the projection is in constant motion. Burr's work reflects the dynamics of contemporary urban development. Boundaries between inside and outside become blurred, addressing the merging of private and public space. The artistic work opens our eyes to urban potential, the integration of new technologies and modern architectural concepts into existing urban structures.
The constant pulsation of the architectural units and the patterns of crowds creates a composition with strong references to the Bauhaus style that emerged in Thuringia, mixed with elements of Op Art and the artist’s own digital glitch art, an aesthetic of random and audiovisual error art.

About the Jenoptik “tangente” exhibitions: Points of contact between business and art
Jenoptik’s in-house art exhibitions have been around since 1996. Under the name “tangente”, they offer points of contact between business, technology, art, light and perception. In 2022, Jenoptik changed the exhibition series to “tangente digital art”, which shows international and national digital art on the high-rise building and headquarters of Jenoptik, thus bringing its art-engagement into the broader public space. The artworks are projected onto two of the high-rise’s facades, measuring 960 resp. 625 square meters, in the center of the ”City of Light”, Jena. The Peter Burr projection now marks the already sixth round of tangente digital art.
The curator of tangente digital art is Galerie Hubert & Treff, Jena; co-curator is Robert Seidel, Berlin.
More information on the exhibition is available on the Jenoptik event page.
