Superior immersive experience with lenses for amusement park rides and 3D simulators
Simulator rides with 3D effects offer amusement park visitors impressive visual effects – an extraordinary spectacle for all ages! Jenoptik develops special lenses for rides like these in amusement parks, which transform the projections into exceptional attractions.
, Tamara WhittakerJust imagine: The cinema curtain opens and before you lies a vast ocean. The virtual journey begins after just a few seconds with a submarine down in the depths of the sea. Dive under the water on board a submarine and encounter sea creatures from the popular film "Finding Nemo". Go on a journey through the Australian reefs to the Great Barrier Reef with Nemo, Marlin and Dory.
Guests at the Tokyo DisneySea theme park in Japan can experience such a 3D adventure as this. The 3D simulator ride "Nemo & Friends SeaRider" is based on the Disney/Pixar films "Finding Nemo" and "Finding Dory".
Jenoptik collaborated on this amusement park project and supplied the projection optics that were used to realize the simulator ride.
The Jenoptik systems are not just limited to Tokyo. The 2D and 3D projection lenses are also used in a wide range of settings – from digital customer desktops to the largest stages and cinema projectors of the world.
The systems are operated in innovative wide-angle and fast lenses for 3D cinemas, roller coasters with projections, dark roller coasters or simulators – in attractions worldwide, for example in the USA, the United Arab Emirates, Taiwan, China, Abu Dhabi and Singapore.
Immerse yourself in new worlds thanks to objectives specially developed for amusement park rides
In 2019, Jenoptik was recognized by the TEA Thea Awards for their contributions with "Tokyo DisneySea". The Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) honors outstanding achievements in the entertainment industry every year.
Jenoptik has collaborated on a number of different amusement park rides over the past years. The TEA Thea Award has been presented for many of them, including the "Wizarding World of Harry Potter" (2015) in Universal Studios in Florida and "Simpsons Ride" (2009) in Universal Studios in Florida and Hollywood.
Even without 3D glasses or a complex cinema, the team found the perfect balance of the elements for the "Nemo & Friends SeaRider" simulator ride to enable a charming and exciting ride for the whole family.
Lenses for amusement park rides can be tested in-house with the "Jenoptik Dome Theater"
Laser projection optics can be thoroughly tested beforehand and demonstrated to the customers at our US site in Jupiter, Florida, in a large dome-like projection space. This "Jenoptik Dome Theater" is equipped with projection optics for wide-angle projection units, for example for soaring rides, themed rides and simulators.
The screen in the projection room has a diameter of around 7.5 meters. The projection screen is elevated almost 1.5 meters above the audience, which is the perfect position to test digital planetarium lenses.
The screen is coated with a proprietary high-performance surface treatment, which fulfils the special requirements of 3D projection screens. Moreover, a 10-meter-wide and 5-meter-high flat screen offers a test surface for digital film lenses, which Jenoptik developed specially for flat screens.
The "Dome Theater" thus serves as a test room for our engineers, making it possible for them to optimize the experience of laser projections.
Thanks to its extensive expertise, Jenoptik is the right partner to supply customized projection lenses for wide-angle projection units for soaring rides, 3D cinemas, dark rides and simulators.
