Experience More Light!
We harness the potential of light.
Welcome to the Jenoptik world in the foyer of our headquarters in Jena, Germany. The high-rise is known as Ernst Abbe building. It has been home to the Jenoptik corporate management since 1994. It was built as of 1934, opened in 1936 (that is why it is also known in Jena as Building 36) and was the Zeiss administration tower until 1991.
Physicist Ernst Abbe (1840-1905) developed the diffraction theory of microscopic imaging and thus, together with Carl Zeiß, created the basis for the scientifically based manufacturing of microscopes. He was an innovative entrepreneur and, as Carl Zeiß's partner, also a progressive social reformer.
Jenoptik emerged from GDR combine VEB Carl Zeiss Jena. Today, Jenoptik and ZEISS are no longer intertwined by shareholder structure. We are linked to each other as partners through customer and supplier relationships, and we are proud of a strong shared history in Jena. Optics and photonics are the foundations of Jenoptik's global business today.
On the accompanying web pages, you will find further information about the exhibits and technologies we show in the exhibition.
