Vision-enhanced laser tool - Smart optical system platform for laser material processing
Quickly to integrate optical system platform for laser material processing of plastics, metals and other materials.
With the new vision-enhanced laser tool, Jenoptik provides an optical system for integration into laser production systems for material processing. As a compact "plug-and-play" system, it is easy to integrate and takes into account the process-related requirements of laser production. The system combines a 2D galvo scanner, F-Theta lens and camera with integrated image processing and intelligent software. System integrators benefit from shorter development times and a smart software solution that guarantees the user fast deployment.
The core of the system is the "All-in-One" software, which combines scanner and laser control as well as image recognition with artificial intelligence. It depicts production projects, ensures monitoring of the running process as well as evaluation and feedback of the acquired data into the control system.
From the fourth quarter of 2019 Jenoptik will be offering the vision-enhanced laser tool in two product lines with different accuracies: a cost-optimized Eco variant and a high-performance variant aimed at speed and accuracy. The appropriate hardware and the corresponding optical system can be determined with test positions and individual application consulting. Customers also benefit from high-quality coated optics, calibrated hardware and pre-assembled software modules that are relevant for the respective application.
Benefits of the vision-enhanced laser tool
Smart plug-and-play system solution
The core of the system is the "All-in-One" software, which combines scanner and laser control as well as image recognition with artificial intelligence. It depicts If a production order has been set up and optical markers are defined for the exact positioning of the laser spot, ´prooves´ and ´compares´ the device determines the position of the workpiece relative to the laser spot during the running process and repositions it if necessary. This is done with a positioning and repeat accuracy of up to 10 µm. The position of the laser spot is always exactly at the predefined position, independent of the shape and position tolerances of the component.
Complex clamping fixtures become obsolete or can fail more easily if they are necessary due to the process. The process is particularly advantageous when machining workpieces that are manufactured with comparatively high tolerances, such as plastic parts in the injection molding process. An increased good yield from the first component improves the production result and productivity.
Calibration at the touch of a button ensures flexible and fast machine changeover, for example in the case of changing production orders. Consistently high accuracy and reproducible results make production more efficient.
Software Features
- All-in-one software solution
- Combines classic laser setup software with image channel
- Image recognition features - Object recognition
- Coax image channel - thus very high resolution ("stitching" of the image)
- Positioning of the laser relative to the recognized features
- high precision
- Software works independently from laser and scanner used
Innovative solutions at competitive costs
The Jenoptik vision-enhanced laser tool is the perfect synergy of high quality hardware, smart software and service offerings which enables our customers to focus on their key competencies.
Increased first part yield
The integrated vision channel is perfectly aligned and calibrated to the galvoscanner. In combination with our software solution we ensure the positioning of the laser spot independent from positional and shape tolerances of the part to be processed.
Increased productivity
Our software solution is combining laser related programming tasks (settings like laser power, pulse rep. reates, modulation of laser energy, etc.), galvoscanner related programming tasks (settings like speed, jumps, number of cycles, etc.) and vision related programming tasks (settings like illumination, gain, pattern recognition, etc.) in one software, easy and fast process setup, intuitive handling, fast setup cycles.
Reduced production costs
The capability of surely recognizing the part position or contour position enables our customers to re-think the overall machine concept – processing different variants, for some processes even no fixture is needed, less laser power is needed as you always hit your target or even weakened part tolerances are possible as the system always follows the real path or recognizes the real position. This feature leads to reduced fixture costs and reduced part costs.
Faster time-to-market
Setting up laser processes is time consuming and not easy. Our vision channel helps to reduce the setting-up times significantly. In particular this is important for customers that work on different and frequently changing tasks. Our software is helping to find the right parameters in an intelligent way.

Applications in Laser material processing
F-Theta Bundle
Jenoptik offers an F-Theta bundle for integration into laser production systems that do not require image processing for process-related reasons. As an easily integrated optical system solution, it combines an F-Theta lens from the JENarTMor SilverlineTMlens series with a matching 2D galvo laser scanner. The F-Theta bundle is designed for laser material processing such as engraving, drilling, marking and welding of plastics or metal. It is used at wavelengths of 355, 515-532 and 1030 to 1080 nanometers with apertures of 15, 20, 30 and 50 millimeters and laser applications up to the kilowatt range.
Four standard configurations are available:
- F-Theta-Bundle "High-performance IR", 1030-1080 nm, with an aperture of 20 and a focal length of 255 millimeters
- F-Theta-Bundle "High-performance UV", 355 nm, with an aperture of 15 and a focal length of 100 millimeters
- F-Theta-Bundle "Economic IR", 1030-1080 nm, with an aperture of 20 and a focal length of 420 millimeters
- F-Theta bundle "High-performance GR", 515-532 nm with an aperture of 15 and a focal length of 255 millimeters
Customers with special requirements can individually combine the in-house F-Theta lenses with different laser scanners for their application. In the field of laser scanners Jenoptik has qualified devices for various applications and can react flexibly to customer requirements.
